![]() Combat Zone Wrestling’s infamous “Cage of Death” show is this Saturday, December 12th at the Flyers Skate Zone in Vorhees, New Jersey, and Chuck Ransford and I shall be in attendance. Always considered CZW’s Wrestlemania, Cage of Death is truly like nothing else. If you want an amazing night of balls to the wall action, then you cannot miss this show. Let’s take a look at the card. Greg Excellent has suddenly gotten real serious, and issued a challenge to any “indy star” out there who will face him. No sooner did Greg cut that promo than up stepped Anthony Nese. The Premiere Athlete is ready to face the usually jovial, and silly, Excellent, who says that he’s now ready to prove that he needs to be taken seriously. It’s hard for me to call this one because I’ve never seen Excellent like this, and Nese is a legit star. If I have to though, I’d pick Excellent because I think there’s a chance that Nese will come in over confident and not prepared for this new Greg Excellent. The Amazing Gulaks, insisting that they are the measuring sticks by which all other wrestlers are measured, as well as the tag team of all tag teams, will face off against perennial CZW favorites in the Beaver boys. This should be an excellent match up, and a true test as to where the Gulak boys really sit as a tag team. The Beaver boys have been booked all over the Country, and while Drew has been as well, Rory hasn’t, and is often pointed out as holding Drew back. I look for Drew and Rory to get the win here to establish their dominance and likely soon challenge for the tag titles. Danny Havok takes on Ricky Shane Page in a death match rules bout. I’m going to be honest here, I am not a big fan of death matches at all. The cage of death once a year is cool, but besides that…not my thing really. I’ll enjoy this for what it is, a brutal, sick, fight to the end. This is more Chuck’s style, so I asked him who will win. He wasn’t certain, but thinks the death match torch may be passed to Page. In an “I quit match,” Joe Gacy takes on Tim Donst. Honestly, this is a match I am looking forward to a lot. It’s a great match up between two excellent wrestlers. Donst, the inspirational wrestler of the year, and Gacy, the big man that moves better than he ought to be able to, in a legitimate storyline angle that should cause the CZW faithful to be fully invested. Both guys trying to prove they belong on the main event level, both guys out to show that they are #wrestling. I really cannot pick a winner. It’s so even that it’s crazy. A returning Sami Callahan hasn’t been announced as facing anyone yet, but The Product David Starr has been pleading with DJ Hyde, and CZW, to give him a match against the former NXT star. The Product has been on a role, capturing several titles on the indy scene, also recently defeating former UFC great Matt Riddle at Legacy Wrestling. Callahan is excited to be back on the indy scene, capturing the 2CW title immediately. I hope this match happens, because it could very possibly steal the show. For the CZW Wired title, the champion Joey Janella takes on Lio Rush. These two are going to pull out all the stops to show the CZW crowd that this is what they want to see. Both guys are daredevils that can also chain wrestle with the best of them. Both guys have been on fire on the indy scene, showing up all over the place for numerous companies, but in the end they both want to be a champion in the Combat Zone, where they will get the National limelight. I’ll pick Janella here. As great a Rush is, and he’s very, very good, I don’t think Janella is giving up that title yet. For the CZW tag team titles it’s long time champions Team Tremendous, taking on “TV Ready” BLK Jeez, and Pepper Parks. Let me say this flat out, Team Tremendous is legit, they are extremely talented, and worthy. Now that I’ve said that….I so despise their gimmick. I don’t get it. They are “detectives,” and wrestle in their Magnum PI wanna be clothing. I don’t know, that’s just not for me. I don’t find it entertaining, or funny. On the other hand, Jeez and Parks are my kind, and style of wrestlers. Toss in Cheery Bomb, and you indeed do have a “TV Ready” team on your hands. Parks has been held down in my opinion. He looks great, works great, and has charisma, and a beautiful woman at his side. He and Jeez, the former CZW world champion need the titles, and will get them. Finally, in the Cage of Death, for the CZW World title, the champion, Matt Tremont will put it all on the line against world superstar and crazy high flying AR Fox, CZW legend Masada, and CZW resident, disciple, leader, and favorite, Devon Moore. To try and predict what will happen in a cage of death is completely impossible. Tremont has proven that there’s nothing he won’t do, Fox has proven he will risk his damn life, Masada has proven that you have to kill him to keep him down, and Moore has proven that he will never be anything other than a main event guy for CZW. All four guys have an incredible passion to win this match, not just for the CZW title, but to say they conquered the other three guys inside the scariest contraption to ever hit professional wrestling. My pick is Fox as your winner, simply because he’s pretty much King of the indies. I wouldn’t put it past Moore to pull the upset though because he just never goes away, and remains at, or near the top, year after year in CZW. No matter who wins this match, it should not be missed by any true wrestling fan.
